Lundy's rare cabbage blooms again after invaders are expelled from its patch http://apocadocs.com/s.pl?1214853798
One of the world’s rarest plants, the Lundy cabbage, has been brought back from the point of extinction.
The cabbage, which, despite its beautiful yellow flowers, tastes disgusting, is found only in a couple of hundred square yards on Lundy Island, a few miles off the North Devon coast.
It is enjoying its most successful year in decades, thanks to conservationists' attempts to stop an invasion of rhododendrons on the island. ... Attempts to stop the rhododendrons began in the 1940s, when volunteers were called in to cut them down. But the plants came back stronger every time, so in 2002, conservationists began a full-scale extermination programme.
